Dave East & Millyz - Pablo & Blanco

Written by nic violets

Dave East and Millyz team up to bring us on an audible journey that feels reminiscent of a classic cartel film. East Harlem meets Boston in this exciting collaboration for both cities. Sitting at just over 13 minutes of play time, Pablo & Blanco is the perfect EP to enjoy from start-to-finish.

The intro track unravels the story of two street raised legends narrated by a mysterious voice which sets the scene for track one: Body 4 Body. Millyz exposes his high energy and bravado before East fades in with a familiar cadence. This just gives us a small sample of the duos chemistry. The title track Pablo & Blanco has production full of bounce. When I first listened, I immediately put on the stank face. The two effortlessly ping pong with each other on the verses creating a cohesive sound. The best part is the visuals straight from Colombia. The Worldstar premiere is just the cherry on top.

In Trafficking Business we see a similar production style. With Latin samples and quick hats, you can count on a flawless backdrop. Another win for Boston is presented on track 5. We can hear ripe—tanjerines. native Shy Gawdly on the hook which breaks up the high level rap with some melodic velvet. It’s really cool to see Millyz incorporate different styles and I’m hoping to see this dynamic continue. The final track takes us back to some 2017 Dave East boom-bap nostalgia. Chapo focuses on lyricism over shiny samples. Pablo & Blanco goes out with a bang by featuring rap legend Statik Selektah and another Worldstar video.

In all, this project outlines what can happen when artistry outweighs marketing value. This is an authentic offering that is tastefully curated and tactfully meshed with the right artists. Hopefully this eludes to more collaborative efforts from Millyz and East. Listen to the 6 track EP below!
