Vic Mensa - What You Taught Us

Written by nic violets

An embodiment of the friendship shared between Vic Mensa and the the tragically late Virgil Abloh is touched upon in a new offering titled What You Taught Us. With great emotion, Mensa trails back to his boom-bap roots and express his grief over a lost friend. The record is a posthumous letter and starts with:

Sittin’ in front of this blank canvas my words are brushes to paint my colors,
Feelin’ kinda blue, like Miles Davis LP
Cuz a legend that I knew but I’d never known was unhealthy
Left to heaven much too soon

Virgil left behind an entire world of culture, vision, emotion, and inspiration for millions of people that will live on forever.

“Virgil Abloh is synonymous with visionary,” Mensa explained. “To see him go from DJing Superfun parties in Chicago that Hollywood Holt would sneak me in when I was 16 to revolutionising the way we think about design and its applications is a true inspiration to a generation that was blessed to be raised under his tutelage. Legends never die.”
