The J Musa Interview
J Musa has been consistently delivering quality music for a while now and we wanted to give his fans the chance to learn more about him! From one of the first visuals we did for Musa, for his record Change, to his collaborative effort with Yxng K.A, to his latest song When I See U, which PnB Rock has expressed interest in, YNC Musa is no stranger to the ripe—tanjerines. family!
Talk to us about J Musa. Where are you from? Give us a little background on your life!
I was born in Haiti and moved to the US when I was few months old. I moved around a lot, lived in a couple different cities but for the most part I grew up right outside of Boston.
What inspires you musically? What about through life in general?
I’m inspired by the experiences me and the people close to me go through. Hardships I’ve experienced, mistakes I’ve made, goals I’ve set for myself. I know for a fact I’m going to be successful in the future so I try to speak that into existence in my music.
In no particular order: who are your top 5 artists of all time?
I really listen to everyone but if I had to pick 5 I’d probably pick G Herbo, Lil Wayne, Fabulous, J. Cole, and Meek Mill
Would you say any of these artists influence your sound?
Yeah for sure. I always looked up to how Fabulous and Lil Wayne were lyrical but still made music people could turn up or vibe to. I always try to throw in clever punchlines and metaphors in my music.
What is your opinion on the direction of the MA music scene? Any artists you’re rocking with out here?
I feel like MA got a lot of talent and a lot of different sounds. You got the melodic sound, the street/drill sound, and talented singers. Yeah I mess wit G Vonnie, 4onzii, G Nipsey, 7981Kal, Millyz
Who’s your favorite super hero and why?
Probably Spider-Man. My pops put me and my lil brother on when we were younger. We used to be geeked to watch the movies whenever they came on.
My next question is a theme for all artists - What is your biggest strength? Growth involves action; What’s something you need to work on to reach the next level?
I think my biggest strength is my versatility. I can really walk on any beat. I’m always willing to try out new things and different sounds. Something I’m working on is being more consistent.
What’s a hobby you have other than creating music?
I’m not sure. If I ain’t in the studio then I’m tryna get to some money.
Definitely feel that! What 3 words would describe your music to someone who has never listened?
Melodic, lyrical, real
What’s next for J Musa? Any new projects, singles, visuals? Anything else you want your supporters to know?
A whole lot of new music on the way. I’m about to drop a single every few weeks. Just recorded a bunch of fire visuals so be on the look out for those
