Curtis Waters - Plastic World

Written by nic violets

Curtis Waters continuously graces the scene with infectious, genre-bending melodies and his latest offering, Plastic World, seems to catapult that reputation to new heights. This two-track package reigns in at just under 5 minutes of play time, but succeeds at delivering an immersive experience for the listener. With Curtis producing the records himself, we see a much deeper connection to the music along with a far more cohesive sound than what’s normally heard from sourcing production.

The first of the two songs, BAD MOOD, features the Boston bred duo of blood brothers Cal and Bren of Brevin Kim. If you follow any of the collaborators on Twitter, you’ll know this has been a long time coming. Heavily reverberated, almost angelic harmonies set the scene before being automated into what literally sounds like voices in a Plastic World. With the tight vocal mix from Michael Freeman, who has worked with Curtis before and is known for some of his techniques in the Hyperpop and Alternative spaces as of lately, we’re graced with perfect unity. The outro of BAD MOOD trickles seamlessly into track two: PSYCHO ICON which sounds like a high-speed chase down the highway after a fight at an underground show. Even Curtis himself recommends that you punch someone in the face to these songs. In all, this extended play a perfect encapsulation of the current state of music with its own unique twist and it further proves the versatility and durability of Curtis in today’s climate.
